The Liberian Community Oral Health Workers Association (LICOHWA)
Introduction
Health can be defined as the level of wellness or illness of the body at a particular given time.
WHO defines health as the total mental, physical and social well being of a person.
According to assessment, a particular aspect of health, which has not been given much attention, especially in Africa and other developing countries of the world, is oral health care.
A Ghana Ministry of Health survey on oral health, reveals that dental decay and gums diseases are the most common oral health problems affecting children and adults in the country.
Based on the above information, combined efforts are being made by health workers in this sector to control, minimise and eradicate the rising cases of dental decay and gum diseases in Ghana.
It is in this direction that the Liberian Community Oral Health Workers Association (LICOHWA), based on the Liberian Refugee Camp, Gomoa Buduburam, Ghana, joined the race to help create oral health awareness and treat people with such diseases within and around the Liberian Refugee Camp in Ghana.
The main focus is to educate people about the importance of oral health care and how to prevent oral diseases.
